We have been having some difficulty with members saying they are attending the luncheon and then not showing, or ladies that have forgotten to make reservations and just showing up. This puts, not only our greeters as great disadvantage but also the Tower Club themselves. When we call in the total amounts for the entre choice, Tower Club orders accordingly. When the members do not show, the Tower Club has to eat those orders. Just last month, there were 20 ladies that rsvp “yes” that didn’t show. We also had 10 ladies that showed and never made a reservation. There is also changing of the entre happening when some women arrive on the luncheon day. Example, you order chicken and when you get to the Club, you change to steak. It puts the Chef into a frazzle as you could probably tell. This does not put a good light on our club as we are all highly trained professionals in our field. We have to be more considerate to our Tower Club as they want to make things right for us. Please Ladies, we will have until the Friday before to get our reservations in so please be observant of this. We are an outstanding group of woman and I know that we all want to show up in our best light.

Susan Kissinger: VP of Internal Involvement
Hello Everyone My name is Susan Kissinger and I have been a member of WEC since 2009. What a difference this wonderful group is from others! While I have been a member of many chambers and organizations, during my careers in Special Events and Equipment Rentals, and then with my own company Kissinger Promotions and Send Out Cards, this by far has been the most rewarding. It's like having 50+ new girlfriends all at once. The first two years I was on the front table checking everyone in so I could learn names and faces! Jump right in and get to know the ladies were my thought, and it worked. I have enjoyed the retreats so much and I love to take pictures and then put them in Send Out Cards then sending to everyone to remember the great time we had.
I am so honored to be the incoming VP of Internal Affairs, I will do my best to continue the smooth flow of the different areas I will cover. Following after Judith will be a blessing as she has created a failsafe road! I see smooth sailing ahead.
I am married to Paul the man of my dreams for 11 years and have two furry family members, Buddy and Trudy T. and am very lucky that we both love to travel and take a pretty exciting trip each year! This year it's off to Madagascar.

Dr. Lenore Alpert organized Florida Oceans Day 2013 (April 4th) for the Florida Ocean Alliance (FOA), a nonprofit organization of industry and ocean researchers. This year's theme "Oceans of Opportunity for Economic Growth" focuses on the importance of oceans and coasts to Florida's economy. The event includes a workshop of experts in the Historic Capitol to discuss their industries and ocean-related exhibits in the Capitol. She and Dr. Bill Stronge have just completed an economic and industry cluster mapping report for FOA. The report finds that the state's coastal counties contribute $584 billion to the economy. This represents 79% of Florida's economy, of which half comes from the economic contributions of those counties along the Atlantic Shoreline. Southeast Florida figures prominently in tourism and seaports, but also includes the marine industry, recreation, and fishing.

Women Empowering Women (WEW) is WEC’s college scholarship program.
Our 2013 WEW winners are Tamara Chang and Rodica Charles. Tamara is a student in an Associate Degree program majoring in legal studies at Keiser University. Her education goal is to earn a graduate degree in Public Administration. Rodica, a Florida International University graduate with double majors in Finance and International Business, is currently pursuing a MBA with a concentration in Human Resources at Nova Southwestern University. Both women are dedicated students with clear career goals.
A WEW recipient receives up to $2500 for educational expenses and a complimentary WEC membership. There were 15 eligible applicants for the two WEW scholarships. Tamara and Rodica were the unanimous first choices of the Scholarship Committee: Ann Meacham, Chadia Meroueh, Dee Moustakas, Melissa Rapkin and Kathleen Ryan.
For both Tamara and Rodica, being a WEW recipient is both an honor and an entrée into a community of women leaders. When asked what it meant to be a WEW scholarship winner, Tamara Chang responded:
There are many reasons why this scholarship is important to me. While the monetary award
will be pertinent for my school fees and books, the best part is being a part of a dynamic group
that represents women who are powerful in business, the economy and the community. This
experience will assist me in my endeavors to become a leader in my community.
For Rodica Charles: WEW is important to me for many reasons:
-This is the first scholarships I ever won and I will never forget the excitement when I received the call informing me that I was the winner of the award!
-During my preliminary interview, although it was short, and I was bombarded with questions by all the committee members in the room, at the same time it gave me this great feeling, and one thought crossed my mind: “One day I want to be like them, powerful and able to make a difference!”
-The scholarship doesn’t mean only funds to help with my tuition, but it also means one year membership in WEC, where I have the privilege of attending events and meeting some\extraordinary people.

An unknown, but very insightful, woman once said, “Friends are like a good bra, supportive, hard to find, and always close to your heart!”
Well, my friends, I’ve found you and now I’m asking you to be supportive in a way that’s VERY close to my heart . . . my daughter Erin and her husband Gabe are ready to adopt a baby into what they call “our forever family.”
I’m learning that the adoption process today is about spreading the good news. So, my friends, if you hear of a birth mother who wants her child to be raised in a loving, lovely family please, please let me know.
The February Cannon Circle was a success held at the Hampton Beach Club. WEC members were treated to red or white sangria, latin sodas like Materva and Ironbeer and fruit juices like mango and guava. Ceviche, 2 salads, turkey picadillo (a ground turkey dish, seafood and chicken paella, black bean soup, and platanos maduros (sweet plantains) followed by latin cookies and guava or mamey (a red fruit similar to papaya) icecream. Zelda, the Palm reader entertained. A tour of Dr. Dora's new beach condo. apt. followed. A great time was had by all and everyone went home with their Valentine's goodie bag. Dr. Dora Vilk-Shapiro, a WEC member since 1996 enjoyed sharing her Cuban heritage with her WEC friends.
I am part of the Coral Springs Leadership program this year and one of our functions is to raise money for the local high schools in our area. We put together a wonderful networking event on March 14th. I invite you to attend and network in a professional yet fun environment. -Kimball Stadler

NEW COURSE: INTERIOR DESIGN FUNDAMENTALS
This New Interior Design Fundamentals course is a unique interactive experience designed for students interested in interior design taught by Industry expert Marla Jaffe Nassau. Focus will be placed on design principles, balance, scale, proportion, color, and texture. Students will learn smart shopping techniques, such as how to save time, money and avoid costly mistakes. Space planning will be discussed as well as practices on how to draw and design a room. Finally, designs become a reality with the implementation of a vision is realized. This 5 week course is open to all levels, no experience necessary. Open house is February 9th 10:00 am till 2:00 pm. and session begins February 19th.
