Come Hear About Women in Distress of Broward County
Mary Riedel is President and CEO of Women in Distress of Broward County, serving the families and children who are victims of domestic violence from its expanded Jim and Jan Moran Family Center Campus in Deerfield Beach. Women In Distress is among the oldest and largest among of the 42 domestic violence centers in the state of Florida.
Mary joined WID as its CEO in 2008 and previously had served on its board and as board chair. Prior to moving to the nonprofit sector in 2006, Mary had a career of over 30 yeas in media marketing, community and public relations. Mary was part of the Sun Sentinel's marketing division for more than 18 years, she held similar positions with The Milwaukee Journal/Sentinel. She also was Director of Major Gifts at Nova Southeastern University (NSU) prior to joining Women in Distress as its chief executive.
Active in the community, Mary has served in leadership roles in a number of nonprofit organizations, spanning human service to the arts, education and libraries as well as numerous charitable boards. She has also received several awards for community service and a the Lifetime Achievement Award from the local chapter of Women in Communications.
Mary has a journalism degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she also did graduate work.
Mary and her husband Bill have two grown daughters and a grandson who also live in South Florida.
